First-line imaging for conditions like pneumonia, foreign body inhalation, or structural abnormalities.

Measures lung function, including how much air a child can inhale and exhale, and how quickly. Can be performed before and after bronchodilator. Useful to diagnose asthma, and other lung, as well as monitor treatment response.

A fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) level test can help diagnose and manage asthma. It measures the amount of nitric oxide that is exhaled from a breath. Increased levels of nitric oxide are associated with inflammation of airways. 

Monitors lung function before and after exercise to assess exercise-induced asthma.

Identifies allergies that may trigger asthma or other respiratory symptoms.

Diagnoses cystic fibrosis (CF) by measuring chloride levels in sweat. 

​Computed tomography (CT) of the chest uses special equipment to examine abnormalities found with simpler  imaging tests, like chest x-rays, in more detail. In some cases, contrast fluid has to be injected, to make blood vessels more visible. 

Overnight monitoring to diagnose sleep disturbed breathing, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). 

To look at general immune function, tendency to allergic diseases, inflammatory markers, liver and kidney function. 

Initial screening of oxygen saturation in the blood, performed on the spot, during clinic visit.

Direct visualization of the airways for diagnosing structural abnormalities, foreign bodies, or infections. Often used for recurrent pneumonia or chronic wheeze.
